I see a lot of posts from my fellow diabetics about test strips found in the wild. \u00a0A test strip found on the floor of a cab. \u00a0A test strip on a hiking path. \u00a0Diabetes trash. \u00a0Hansel and Gretel, gone diabetes style. \u00a0I never ever see these mysterious, elusive test strips, ever. \u00a0If I find a test strip in my shoe, it’s mine. \u00a0A test strip in my tights (that actually happened once), it too is mine. \u00a0No great mystery around here.<\/p>\n

Tonight I was meeting up with a friend. \u00a0Two subways should have taken 24 minutes to get me to my destination (yes, 24 minutes). \u00a0My first train was delayed and I was going to be late. \u00a0I HATE being late. \u00a0While I waited for the connecting train, I paced the platform. \u00a0I looked down. \u00a0Dear non- New Yorkers, this is often the moment you see a rat or mouse on the tracks. \u00a0Guess what I saw? \u00a0Nope, not a rat. \u00a0Nope not a mouse. A syringe! \u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

For a second my heart skipped a beat. \u00a0A DIABETIC WAS HERE! \u00a0I grabbed my phone. I felt silly but I snapped a quick photo and then I realized it. \u00a0My heart skip knew better too. \u00a0That syringe probably didn’t belong to a diabetic. \u00a0It wasn’t the tool of my people. \u00a0A test strip in the wild = a diabetic has been here. \u00a0A syringe in the wild = who the hell knows?<\/p>\n
